Keddy Johnson pens new Flyers deal
Kedrian Johnson has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract with the Bristol Flyers.
The American guard will return for his second season with club, becoming the first player to commit to Coach Kapoulas 2024/25 roster.
Johnson enjoyed a very successful rookie campaign with the Flyers out of West Virginia University - averaging 15.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and and 1.8 steals per game in 23 league appearances for the club.
Speaking on his decision to return for a second season, Johnson said: "It honestly feels great to be back. Bristol is a place where I’m comfortable and I felt I had some unfinished business, missing nearly three months of last season.
"Coach wants me to move into the full time point guard spot this year, which was a role I played throughout my college career. He wants me to be more of a creator and continue to bring my defensive intensity to the team.
"Despite the injury, I felt I had a pretty solid rookie year and exceeded a lot of my personal expectations. I adjusted pretty quickly when I returned to the floor and I cant wait to run it back once again."
During his college career, Johnson averaged 11.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in his senior year at WVU, including a season-high 27 point performance against Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.
He appeared in 91 career games during his three years as a Mountaineer, registering 63 starts, 589 points, 171 assists, 164 rebounds and 119 steals.
Prior to joining West Virginia, Johnson attended Temple College in Texas, where he led the country in steals as a freshman with 3.7 per game.
He was fourth in the country in scoring during his Sophomore year at 25.5 points per game, whist shooting 47% from the field and 84% from the foul line, including back to back games where he scored 45 points or more.
Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: “We are excited to have Keddy back for a second year with the club.
“He handled the early three-month injury well and finished the season strong, producing a very solid rookie campaign, but he certainly has some unfinished business.
“This season he will lead our team at the point guard spot with his defensive tenacity, as well as his ability to get in the lane, score in a variety of ways and make plays for his teammates.
“He understands the demands of balancing our domestic and European fixtures and that experience and continuity will be a huge benefit to our new-look roster.”
