Bristol Flyers sign sharpshooter Trey Tennyson out of Texas Christian University
The American guard has penned his first professional contract and joins the club on a one-year deal.
Tennyson played in all 34 games for TCU in the Big 12 last season, and led the team with 62 made threes on 148 attempts (41.9%), helping the Horned Frogs reach the NCAA Tournament.
On signing his first professional deal, Tennyson said: "It’s really cool to see everything come to life, I’ve put in a lot of work to be here.
"I spoke to Coach K and I liked everything he was saying to me, so for us to both be on the same page made it a no-brainer for me to join the Flyers.
“I’ve played at every level during my college career, so I feel like I can adjust to whatever Coach needs me to do. He wants me to play with Keddy (Johnson) at the one and two, play off ball screens and stretch the floor with my shooting ability, but he also wants me to defend some of the opposition's best players too.
"Keddy and I go way back. We played against each other in high school, we’ve played in open gyms together, but the is the first time we’ve really talked a lot over the summer.
"I knew he was playing in Bristol last season and I hit him up to see how he liked it out there and he had nothing but good things to say about the organisation, so I’m excited to get started.”
Tennyson began his collegiate career at Central Connecticut in the NEC, before transferring to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, where he led the team in scoring during the 2022/23 campaign (15.7 PPG) and broke the school record for threes made in a season (100). He led the Islanders to back-to-back Southland Conference Tournament Championships during his time in Corpus Christi and earned All-Conference honours during both of his seasons in the SLC.
Speaking on his first new acquisition of the summer, Flyers Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas said: "Trey is an exciting pickup for our roster. His college career reveals a great story about his drive and work ethic.
"He was one of the best shooters in all of college basketball last season in the Big 12, which is the toughest conference in the states.
"His game has expanded more this past year and he has demonstrated that he is more than a high-level shooter. He's able to make plays off the bounce and can be effective in a lot of areas, being at the right spots on the defensive end, while hitting mid range jumpers or driving down the lane, making good decisions on offence.
“He has already been able to catch up with Keddy to get to know more about our club and we feel that he will great fit in our programme.”
